I wanted to make sure everyone knew what I used. I called it "putty" but I'm not sure it's technically "plumbers putty". I used a product called "Harvey's Pipe Thread Stick". According to the label it will "... lubricate, seal and prevent rust or corrosion". It's good to 350 degrees F and 2000 psi for water, steam, air, natural gas, butane and propane. Using the term "putty" was probably a mistake. Thanks to all for your comments!
