Tennessee RVing

We just got our first travel trailer, looking forward to it but need some ideas on where to go. We are close to Memphis and still working, so stuck with weekend trips for now. We started at Shelby Meeman State Park and with our first successful outing under our belts, ready for more!

We travel with two small dogs.

Thanks for any ideas!
  • Can't give you any travel tips given we are on the w. coast... BUT... We also travel with two dogs (a boxer and a schnauzer mix).

Do yourself a favor and get 1 or 2 of these. Precision Dog Exercise Pens They fold up flat (easy to transport), and easily connect together. We use heavy duty snaps to connect them quick, and cut up swimming pool noodles to stabilize the top joints. We have indoor/outdoor carpet under half and try to leave half on gravel/grass. We have bought landscapers shade cloth to shade half. Also very easy to attach.

Our dogs LOVE the freedom - they wrestle in there.. sun bathe..etc. We don't ever leave them out there unattended...only when we are at the TT relaxing. It's a win win on so many levels. They are also safe from the occasional unexpected dog(s) running into camp that may have aggression issues. We have their travel crates in there with the doors open and they are happy little campers. Can't tell you how much it helps when setting up or breaking camp to have them in a secure place while we do our thing. They can see us...and we can see them.
  • Check out Tom Sawyer, W Memphis AR. A great place to Unwind, relax and DO NOTHING, but watch the barges up and down Ole Miss. Eat,sleep and relax.
  • Just south of Memphis is Tunica, MS if you like gambling. There are 3 casinos, Hollywood, Sam's Town, and Harrah's that all have full hook up parks.

I stayed at the Sam's Town park this August for like $18 a day.
  • TN has some of the best lakes in the US. My experience has been around Dale Hollow Lake and Fontana Reservoir, more eastern TN.. Have boated on more of them than I have camped around. Many of the state parks I have stayed at have 50 amp electric and water and remote enough not to have cell phone reception or over air TV signals.
  • Land Between the Lakes www.lbl.org
there are several campgrounds inside of this National Recreational Area. Full hookups are available. Piney is our favorite.
lots of out door activities, hiking, biking.access to two rivers for boating, bank fishing, swimming. a working farm/buildings of the 1850s at the Homeplace, and the list of activities go on... 9 miles from Fort Donelson National Battlefield. 4 miles from Grand Rivers, Ky and Patti's Settlement...
  • Hi! I'm in your area too. There's a thread in Family Camping about N.MS, W. Tn, and E. AR I started. There's lot's of places listed in there already.

Our fav place is Natchez Trace state park. It's beautiful and very peaceful. I grew up on Arkabutla lake in Ms, so I'm partial to there too.
