Sounds like you're going this direction anyways, but I agree with getting a truck & trailer rather than a Class C. You'll have to learn how to back up a trailer, but not a big deal with some practice and patience.
Couple of reasons to get the truck/trailer combo:
1. You can leave the trailer behind and have a much smaller vehicle for driving around. Imagine simple tasks like going to the grocery store in a Class C. It's not easy to find parking.
2. I've borrowed my parents' Class C and, no offense to those that have them, I found it to be a very UN-enjoyable driving experience. RV's are like rolling earthquakes, so they're noisy as hell with the stuff rattling and vibrating. A trailer is just as noisy, but you won't be IN it. Instead, you'll be in your much quieter truck, which probably has better seats and ergonomics too.
3. My parents' Class C gets 9 mpg. You should be able to do better than that with a truck and small TT.
4. If you're Class C needs repairs, your entire home goes into the shop. Where will you stay, and how will you get there?
5. Put a bed cover or cap on the truck, and you now have a lot more storage.
Incidentally, after using my parents' Class C, we ended up buying a travel trailer. Much better fit for our usage.
