If it were just me I would probably go with a truck and slide in camper. They have a surprising amount of room but not the hassle of extra tires, registration, lights etc.
They are much easier to get back off the beaten path, personally I don't really like campgrounds.
They can also be removed from the truck as easily as a trailer with the use of the electrical jacking systems. Look at the ones that can be used off the truck as well as on.
You can leave it on your truck if you don't have a place to drop it and drive around town. A true hassle sometimes with a trailer.
You still can use the hitch on the truck if you want to tow a boat or motorcycle or snowmobile trailer.
IF you visit friends on the way you don't have to worry about their HOA complaining as much or taking up all their parking.
Just my 2 cents. No matter what you end up with you will love.
