Thinking of purchasing

Two people, dogs and washer/dryer you are most likely in a Class A or a 5th wheel. Washer/dryer is typically (but not always) only found in the larger units.

Best of luck, and FYI, a diesel pickup not towing can get 16-20 mpg (11ish towing) a large class A is around 8 mpg.

for 4 moves a year I would not go to the expense of fitting the car to use as a toad. just have the GF drive it.

It will be two of us most of the time however sometimes just me. Also 2 dogs most of the times however sometimes just one. Myself and my fiance are just wanting one as Hotel life is hard on the dogs and lately there is no guarantee you will get a hotel that has a kitchen and your housing agreement has many stipulations about bringing a hot plate and such if it doesn't. 13 weeks of eating every single meal out or fast food is getting old quickly. Now you have the option of taking a stipend which can range 1,200.00 all the way to 4,000.000 a month dependent upon the area if you have an RV or find your own housing. Which lately finding good housing has become slim to none..... My assignments offers can be anywhere in the U.S. really it depends on what I am willing to accept. Its my choice which one I take. as I am with 4 different companies like most travelers are. Currently on assignment in the Mountains in North Carolina as it is only 8 hours from family so I can drive home for holidays and this contract will be up January when I will move on to the next. I have talked to several travelers that do the rv thing and most say they would never go back to living in a horrid hotel. So I am considering the option. I currently have a small crossover suv I would make my tow behind vehicle (Nissan Juke) or even make my fiance follow me in it. This last housing has been a total nightmare more so than others. I work night shift and maintenance decides they want to work on things during the day so they beat on my door until they finally wake me up despite the do not disturb sign on my door. Even if I don't answer then the management will call we are trying to do some maintenance on such and such in your room and you wouldn't answer the door. Which I have a very colorful reply to. But thats just tip of the iceberg.....

I presume that you are going to have to drive from your camping spot to your place of work. If you have a 5er you will be driving your big TV with something about 10 mpg to and from work. With a MH you can tow a car (toad) and drive that to and from work at about 30+ mpg.

Maybe something to consider.

I agree with C-Bears, you need either a Class A or 5th wheel. You should find plenty used models for either. Finding a nice 3-5 year old model may be difficult, but not impossible. If you go with a 5ver your tow vehicle will likely need to be diesel, not necessarily, but to have a unit that has a washer & dryer it's going to be at least 12,000-14,000 lbs. and a diesel is your best bet.

Good luck with your search. I think you're doing the right thing considering your career. Your pets will appreciate having you tow them around in "their" home.

The OP didn't really mention if there were 2 of them, or just one person and dogs. Either way, IMHO if you are going to be full time and moving around I would think either a 34-38 foot MH or 32-38 foot FW. Regular Class C probably will not be enough room, especially needing a washer/dryer installed.

Even if you are going to purchase used, don't be shy about visiting some dealer to see different models and floor plans. If you come across something you really like you can go home and start searching online for a used one.

Sitting for 13 weeks at a time then moving a few hundred miles only to sit for another 13 weeks? Sounds like a really big waste of a MH to me. Have you considered the cost of maintenance for a chassis that sits for 90% of the time? Maybe a nice TT or fifth wheel would be a better fit for your life on the road.

Another concern: Will your job require you to stay in cold areas in the winter?

If so remember, it is NOT easy to keep an RV warm in extreme temperatures.

Most of my friends who fulltime eventually end up in a Class A. If you are single you might be ok in a large Class C, but the available storage in a class A is nice to have.

Do you get a housing allowance from your company? My Dad's home care nurse (after hip replacement surgery) lived in an RV as she had the same sort of gig - go where the patients are. I wasn't there the day they were talking about this and don't know the specifics of what she had, though!

Before I offer an opinion...How many dogs? Are you the only human? What kind of car do you have? Do the dogs need to be separated during the work day? Are you physically able to climb a ladder up to an overhead bunk? Not all cars can be towed easily...
