Tipping RV Storage Attendants??

We are beginners and have a question. We found an inexpensive place to store our travel trailer ($40/mth). They are fully staffed during the week and a skeleton staff or on call on weekends or odd hours. We have been doing some weekend pickup and drop offs. The guy working there helps with the hook up or the un hooking. We gave him a $5 tip each time.

So the question is.... are we being too generous. Do other tip? and if so how much?
  • If you're happy to receive the extra help with hooking / un hooking and don't mind tipping by all means keep tipping. I assume the guy never objects to taking it. Its a win/win situation.

I try to get my DW to help but other than checking the lights and putting on the passenger side WDH bar that's it for her. Helpful hint: if the bugs are really bad, no matter how fast you want to finish, CHECK to see if you put the WDH bar handle back where it belongs and not on the bumper - never to be seen again.
  • Is hooking up part of their job? If yes, no tip.

If it is not part of their normal job, tip.

At this place you have been thoughtful, and I would not stop now.
  • If you keep tipping him, then he may keep a better eye on your TT than the others due to a vested interest in a 'friend'. I'd keep it up but not go overboard. You will be viewed as one of the 'nice guys'.
  • I too think that's fine, and a good amount. As I get older and can more afford it, I've tried to consider tipping a bit more often, especially for those who truly help, and do it with a good attitude. Folks making minimum wage are often having a tough time.
  • He helps hook up?! Heck yes tip him. I'm sure he doesn't have to do that but does, so I would tip him. You are nice people.:)
  • I don't have that kind of service where I store my TT, but I'm able to hook up, drop off by myself. I can't see why you can't tip him if you think he is providing you a service and you want to, but if it's bothering you, I'd ask the owner.
  • For a weekend call out I would perhaps tip.
for assistance during regular working hours, maybe, maybe not, depending on the level of "help".
the amount is purely up to you, whatever makes you comfortable.
