We took our little ones camping at just a few weeks old. It helps when it's warm. We used a small tent as a "play-yard" for our little ones, just sat it up in the middle of camp. Used sleeping bags or old quilts for padding on the floor and toss in a few toys! Much easier to keep the bugs off with screen windows and door. I felt they were safer while inside. I could go inside to nurse or change a diaper, or play. I also used a strap from my waist to their waist while fishing around the lake when they were 2-4 years. Good luck....:)
