When it's too cold we head south. When we feel like stopping we get off when the sign says camping this exit. We do stop over at places we have been when we are traveling. We don't know what people eat or do in there free time and we like to find that out when we stop.
We don't like places that other people say are great and we have found some out of the way places that we love. We are on the do at about 150 or 200 days a year, never make reservations and only found a full campground once in the last 35 years.
