Tire covers

Tire covers not only matter, the color/heat retention properties do also. At least so sez a retired tire company engineer.

I have never heard of a single controlled test by anyone that disproves my statement.

Tire covers cost money, are a lot of work, and do nothing to improve tire life.

I occasionally use 303 protectant spray and generally try to keep direct sunlight off the tires when they are stored. Not sure if it helps or not. I replace tires within 5-6 years anyways, never seen any obvious UV damage in that time frame.

I use McKee's 37 Gloss Tire Gel (non petroleum or silicon containing formulation with UV protection additives). Love the stuff.

I used the cloth covers when TT was on storage lots in Texas and Nevada. They were cheap to purchase and made me feel better. Also frequently applied 303 protectant to both TT and truck tires. Easy to apply and fun with no mess if done properly and stayed looking new and clean. Never any tire problems in 15 years of hard travel and storage. Replaced tires due to age and flats on road trips. Used mostly Maxxis TT tires. Cheap insurance to me. Cheers

Couldn't hurt, may be helpful. One downside to using them in Florida, they gave cover to mud daubers and paper wasps cover setting up residence on the wheels and a nasty surprise to me when I removed them. Should have used the trailer more frequently than we did..... :)
