What is the purpose of tire covers and are they really needed ?

They serve two purposes
1: They look nice
2: They flatten your wallet.
What the DO NOT do is stop UV light from damaging the tire.
Now if you cut a slab of plywood, say 1/4 or 3/8" and lay it against the tire then cover that so it looks good.. That might stop the UV
