Tires?!?

*EDIT* this is a used 5er that we will be purchasing from owner, that has had it sitting on jacks on a concrete slab of a campground for over a year or so!!!!


I know, the great Tire(d) debate/review!!!!

PLEASE: Need Advice!!!!

Looking for input from experienced rv'ers about tires to purchase for a 2011 Keystone Sprinter Copper Canyon 324FWBHS. http://www.rvguide.com/specs/keystone/fifth-wheel/2011/copper-canyon/324fwbhs.html

I've read all over and have been made aware that the TowMaxx tires are no good!!! We are planning on hauling out next month from the TNT/KY area and heading west to the OR/WA area???

We are hoping on just having to purchase new tires and not wheels.
Current tires on the unit are Power King TowMaxx STR ST235/80R16.

Good brands/size/type for long haul traveling and GO!!!

    What you've "heard" aside: In the three years you've had the Towmax's on, how many failures/flats/difficulties have you had with them?

    That said: frankly, I think you'll get better advice if you consult whatever tire folks you trust to put rubber on the rest of your vehicles. You'll get nothing but folks' preconceived notions here!

    Look into BF Goodrich Commercial TA or if you have enough coins Michelin XPS Ribs. I run the BF Goodrich on our 5er. :)

    This is another debate that has been beat to death. Stick with ST tires and replace them every two years and fear blowouts or install quality LT tires and go for 5 to 6 years with complete confidence. Your choice!

    Been East Coast to West Coast and back. Been up and down the east coast. Hot in the desert, cold in the mountains ! 12,000 miles and TowMax tires did just fine. Maybe luck ? Who knows. Would not concern me a bit to keep the tires you have. Maintain correct PSI, do not overload and do not exceed tire mph.

    My last 5th wheel, a Keystone Everest, was very similar in weight to yours. I put on Michelin LTX truck tires LT235/85R16 and toured the country for two years without any tire issues. I'm running Michelin XPS Rib on my current trailer. You'll never see me with any tire stamped Made in China on any of my trailers as I don't like blow outs. If you insist on ST's may I recommend the Maxxis M8008, which aren't made in China.

    Dry 10.5k lbs.
    Payload 3,600lbs
    GVWR 14.1k lbs

    Looking for opinions on tire recommendations to change out the TowMaxx.

    I have no opinion on how much you should spend on new tires. I do not know your finances. THe only guidance I can give you is to avoid any ST tire.
    Also have you ever weighed the rig? That will enter into the calculations for proper tire replacement.
