I'm stealing this line from another forum member- but 3/4 ton (and 1-ton trucks) and engines (that's engines THESE days) and different rear ends do not do all that much for towing POWER.
What you get in 3/4 and 1-ton trucks are suspensions and axles and frames and brakes and tires designed to "take some weight" and "do some work"- where sadly- quite often, half ton pickups are engineered for folks to look cool and haul a couple bags of landscaping mulch along with the groceries.
I don't want to be a 3/4 ton snob- nor say that the comment above is the ABSOLUTE truth, but it does contain SOME truth- a lot of folks purchase and drive 1/2 ton trucks and never do any "work" with them (and "Detroit" has adapted to serve them) while the 3/4-ton and etc. trucks are built more for "work".
