rdwelch2, it doesn't always make sense to us as to why things just don't start out right. At least you are facing the facts and doing the necessary things to be and feel safe on your trips.

I know you probably have already conquered the broken key problem. A while back the main door key would work in other RVs. If this is the case now, maybe you can borrow a neighbor's key.
I always know if I have a break down or emergency, I will do something to take care of the problem. There is always help someplace.
