Trailer tires are subjected to FAR more stress than your truck tires or car tires. When making a turn the trailer tries to pivot since both axles are fixed (non steering axles) and it CANNOT pivot on two points at the same time. Result is huge lateral forces as it DRAGS the axles through a turn. . . .
That may be true but if it were a real issue there would be more rubber debris on the road considering the number of 18 wheelers, multi axle dump trucks and specialty vehicles that also pivot on their wheels. 4x4 vehicles notoriously scuff tires on dry surfaces. Also DOT would have gotten into the game long before now and forced some sort of redesign.
Sounds more like RV tire failure causes are mainly either underrated - fault of builder, seller or owner, poorly designed - manufacturer or under inflated - owner.
Considering the forced implementation of TPMS by the gov't due to crashed caused by under inflated tires - Ford/Firestone brought it to a head I'd say it is the latter.
Thank you for all of your advice. I'll probably eventually get one but for now I'll keep an eye on the pressure since a slow leak seems the likely precursor.
