TPMS. Necessary or just peace of mind?

Belts broke on all 3 tires. Heard and felt them blow with big boom and none of the casing's were hot at all when I got them out of the road. They were not low on air or there would have been heat build up. Bottom line was bad tires as confirmed by the manufactuer. The Firestone tire on MH should have been changed because of age. Didn't know that at time, I had just bought the rv. Nexans on 5er were a couple of years old and threw the tread off and popped the cords. I hear that is a common problem with Nexans now.
