traveling with water in tank

We have a class c and always travel with a full tank of water, in mountainous British Columbia and into the Alberta Rockies.

Our tank, full weighs about 330 pounds.

We usually camp without hook-ups.

We have come across campgrounds with nasty tasting water and on occasion boil water advisories.

Full tank all the time, never know what road I may want to go down and find a great place to stop for the night. For me thats the beauty of hauling a house around and whats another 200 lbs once you hook up a house to the truck...

People worry about the weight of 40 gallons of water,but think nothing of packing the cabinets with food that most just take along for the ride and unpack when they get back home.:S And yes,have hauled a few cans of corn from FL to CA and back,twice. :B

That's a wide range for a wife.... 160-240 lbs.

Believe me; after changing that spring out, even 85 degree water felt like it was ice cold! :B

My FW tack is on probably the smallish size it is 40 gallons. IF we are boondocking I always go full plus an extra 15 gallons in the truck. For when we are going to a CG with Hookups I bring about 15-20 is gallons. And we just always take a case or two of water to drink and do not really drink that much out of the FW. In my 1/2 ton I have not really noticed any MPG difference with or with out water.

I only travel with around 8 gallons. no need to bring anymore weight than I need. besides we almost always get FHU. when we do get electric only I fill up at the campground. only takes a few minutes and is very easy.

And also, some tanks are mounted way up front or in my case at the very rear of the trailer. this will mess with your tongue weight if you don`t always travel with full water. for me a full freshwater tank is 44 gallons! if I only travel with approx. 8 gallons that saves me 300lbs. that is a good amount of weight savings!

Unless you have a refrigerated fresh water tank, how did you manage to get a cold shower in 100 degree weather? :B

My first brain freeze RV'ing was a MH break down in 112 degree temps in Houston.
Limped her to a CG with police escort and when all was said and done and I was finally off the road all I wanted was a cold shower.

I turned 'only' the cold water knob on in the shower and got third degree burns! Guess I wasn't back home where when you turn the cold water faucet on you get cold water.:S

The temp of the water in the tank was the same as it was outside, 112 degrees! Here to tell you I now know that your fresh water tank takes on the ambient temperature of what ever it is outside.

Water, propane and fuel I try to keep full. Black and gray tank I try to keep empty.

There have been a few times on the road where I needed to take a nice cold shower. One time in Reno Nv where I busted a spring on my TT and had to change it in 100 degree weather.

A few other times I had to deal with flat tires and after doing that a nice cold shower comes in handy!

At 16K it makes next to 0 difference in mileage.

As the saying goes, do what you want, it's your trailer. Hell, my FIL even has a rule; no using his bathroom. :h But it's his trailer and his rules. I'm just glad I don't have to travel with him. :)
