Sometime in the 21 century (2004/5?) s/s kitchen appliances became easier to clean with the addition of various metals on the manufacturers' end in response to consumers' complaints.
Thus, the fridge and range, I purchased in October 2016, need no special products to clean them.
Older s/s appliances still need a more...thought provoking method of cleaning.
I use any ol' detergent to clean my convection microwave oven (late '90's) and toaster (mid '80's) and then rinse with vinegar and water for a smudge free finish for about 2 minutes after cleaning ;).
