5. No. But if I need one I bet the NRA can recommend one in that area. (Life Membership, you know.) Besides, having an attorney on retainer, say, in Florida, won't do you much good in Michigan.
Not at 3 a.m. they can't. Your retained lawyer will tell you what steps to take in order to not dig yourself deeper.
First of all, you shouldn't need to talk to a lawyer to know how to NOT dig yourself in deeper. You should already know that when the first responding officer rolls up to the scene.
Secondly, most places, you are allowed ONE phone call that connects to someone who answers a phone. If your lawyer's taken a week off to go sailing, and your phone call reaches his answering service. You're done making calls and will sit in jail until he gets back to shore and collects his messages.
Thirdly, the average lawyer doesn't know squat about self defense shootings and has probably never defended an innocent man. You need a lawyer who specializes in this sort of thing.
Look into joining the Armed Citizen's Legal Defense Network. Their emergency number is answered 24/7/365 and they can recommend a qualified attorney in whatever part of the country you are in. More importantly, funds are available IMMEDIATELY as a retainer to WHOEVER you choose as an attorney to get him/her working on your case.
