UVW and GVWR and Tow Vehicles

Senario:

5,500lb UVW Toy Hauler.
1,000lb cargo/water/etc max ever pulled usually averaging more in the 500lb range (self-propelled toy-type hauler only)
10,500lb GVWR on the TH

Would I be fine with a vehicle that has a max tow of 8000? (assuming that the 1,000lbs is NEVER exceeded).

I will never understand the concept of having "just enough" tow vehicle.

How about this - "I ALREADY have a truck. What can I pull with it?"

    Not too hard to understand.

Even if you start with the truck, nothing says you have to buy a trailer that it will barely tow, which is what a lot of folks want to do. And they end up with "just enough truck". Which is a bad idea no matter what order you buy them in.

BS - If your towing within the limits of your vehicle you're good to go. That's why they call them "Maxmium _______", and especially since manufacturer's are testing pickup trucks to J2807 Standard.
  • Troubledwaters, you have to remember that there are some people in this world that actually are worried or feel unsafe just walking out their front door or going to the grocery store.
To an extent, some of that behaviour is evident in the ultra conservative replies or recommendations we see here....

Exactly. "Just enough" IS still "enough". There is no NEED for overkill.
  • Cool to see this one come to the top again! Hope saffiekeegan is getting her trailer ready for campin season!

This type of thinking is that of someone who lacks knowledge, experience or both. Of course having more truck than you "need" is a luxury, more comfortable, etc. it does not mean there is anything wrong with matching the capability of the truck with the load.
