If RV parks would offer those who choose just a place to park, no hookups for overnight at a reasonable cost perhaps people would choose that instead of Walmart. Many parks have priced themselves out of the price range of travelers/overnight guests. I don't know what the solution is, but many cannot afford to spend $100 on a couple of overnight stops before they even arrive at their vacation destination.
We have never parked in a parking lot, but go to rv parks and campgrounds even if for just 1 night. I do understand the convenience of just being able to pull off the highway into a parking lot, sleep a few hours and get right back on and continue on your way. That is not how we travel even though many do.
That will happen when all other businesses do the same. When hotels quit charging $150.00 a night for a traveler who only wants to sleep for a few hours and not an entire night, for those travelers who don't use the pool, don't need the conference center and don't eat the continental breakfast. Or when Disneyland starts charging only $15.00 for someone who tells them at the gate they are not going to ride the roller coasters. Or when the Chinese Buffett offers a 50% discount to someone who tells them they are only going to eat off the left hand side of the buffet table.
No one is forcing anyone to stay at RV parks, to stay in hotel rooms or eat at the Chinese Buffet or visit those high priced tourist areas. Therefore no one should force or even expect those places to accomodate anyone who doesn't want to pay the prices they choose to charge. The reason those RV parks charge $100 for a couple of days is because people will pay it. If people would quit paying those prices the parks would do one of two things. Either lower their prices or go out of business, same as would happen with any other business or industry in this great country. It is called "capitalism".
