WALMART RV Parking

Today I went to my local Walmart to shop. While walking my dog I saw a sign stateing no overnight RV parking.

So was wondering does Walmart still allow RV's to park overnight in some of thier lots ?
  • As was pointed out in a recent thread, some people use Walmart as their personal camping spot putting out their awnings, grills, etc. Could be both Walmart and municipalities are not keen on this. There is a difference between what JaxDad and many of us do and those who don't want to spend the money on an RV site at a campground. These people push the limits of Walmart's generosity, using these spots as more than a sleepover. Hopefully we will be able to continue to have spots to rest/sleep and moveon in spite of the abusers.

    AFAIK, Walmart still allows overnight parking, however, in more and more areas the municipality they are located in are passing laws to prohibit it.

    This past winter the DW & I were visiting family in Naples Florida, we usually get in late, spend the night in the Walmart, then go visit them first thing the next morning. This year we noticed 'no overnight parking' signs. The signs clearly stated this prohibition was based on a City ordinance.

    Since we arrived late and were both beat we decided to stay anyways. Even before we'd finished 'dewatering' the dog a Sherriffs Deputy stopped by, before we could say anything but 'hello' he said 'oh, you're from Canada' after spotted the plates on the m/h. He quickly pointed out that overnight parking was prohibited, but then said 'but don't worry about that, it's just to prevent long term campers'.

    Apparently the economic downturn created some problems for municipalities and store / plaza owners.
  • From the Walmart website FAQ;
    http://corporate.walmart.com/frequently-asked-questions

    "While we do not offer electrical service or accommodations typically necessary for RV customers, Walmart values RV travelers and considers them among our best customers. Consequently, we do permit RV parking on our store parking lots as we are able. Permission to park is extended by individual store managers, based on availability of parking space and local laws. Please contact management in each store to ensure accommodations before parking your RV."
  • Our local store allowed overnight parking until a knuckhead that was actually living there attacked a customer as she was getting into her car.
  • Some do, some dont. It is usally local regulations that prohibits it, not Wanmart.
