water heater question

I just purchased a 2015 skyline retro it has a manual gas bottle system I have to light it outside it runs the hot water heater the furnace and the fridge my question is do I need water in the hot water heater before I light the element, Like lighting it to run the fridge when going to camp! thanks

After you've filled your fresh water tank & turned the pump on, the hot water heater tank fills automatically, which actually allows for more water in your fresh water tank afterwards.

Why do you want to heat hot water? I will never understand that

Yes, you need water in the rigs system.
If equipped make sure the winterizing water heater is on to allow water to enter the water heater.
You would not need to light the water heater in advance of a trip. You can light it when you get to your location. Takes 15-20 minutes to heat the water.
