water heater

WE full time and want to know should we leave the water heater on all the time or just when we need it ? This would be in cold temps.

Thats about it. If on LP turn the heater on for no more than a half hour before needing hot water then turn it off before actually using the water. No point in heating water as it is used if it will not be needed right away.
  • If on LP I only have it on when needed. If plugged in and running on electric I have it on all the time.
  • If you are full timing leave it on all of the time. It will always be hot for you and you will not have to worry about the tank freezing. If yours operates on both gas and electric choose one or the other. Only use both gas and electric if you have a lot of people showering and need a lot of hot water fast. After everyone has showered leave it on electric or gas, your choice.
  • If you are living in your RV full time then you should be just fine to leave it on all the time. Assuming you are using it on a regular basis. If you are new to maintaining water heaters you may want to read through this Water Heater Basics Article
  • I'm a little unsure of what you are asking....
If are really full time, then why would you want the water off?
(We turn the pump off when we are traveling because we had a valve in the head vibrate open and we pumped a lot of fresh water overboard....)
You are keeping the coach warm enough to be comfortable - right?
Then unless all of the plumbing is in the unheated basement, what is the issue?
If you mean leave the pump on, sure.
If you mean leave the water in the water heater, sure.

If I missed something, try again.

  • waste of lp imo but how cold is it going to be? I turn on when needed.
