Wax?

I'm planning on washing and waxing my rv the next couple of days. Do you all use the rub on wax, or spray wax? What is your recommendation?

  • I use Mequires "Cleaner" wax. It not only shines and protects. But it removes any oxidation, and slight scratches, Plus removes any black streaks that may be on the side. It is decal safe, and if you do it once or twice a year. It is easy. My last TT was 10 years old when we sold it. the finish looked like new, and it sat out in the sun 12 months of the year. This one is 4 years old, and the paint is like new. so judge for yourself.

You can use a spray on that removes no flaws, or you can remove the flaws, and protect in one step.
  • If you have a new unit, then I'd use some modern technology such as Lucas Slick Mist, or Aerospace 303. If you like to "Wax On, Wax Off" then have at it with any good car wax. I would not use floor wax on a new unit. I did use it on my older faded Hurricane and it worked great to restore a shine.
  • I wax mine twice a year with regular old turtle wax and an orbital buffer. Works great. Use a detailing spray in between.
  • Lots of opinions on this. I use a hand rubbed carnuba wax. Two coats followed by a good polish. Alot of work once a year. Great therapy for anyone considering a larger rig. I involve the kids.
  • Every few years I used an Acrylic Floor polish (Zep wet look) - lots of threads on the subject. When I wash the rig I use zip wax. Combo seems to work well for me.
  • I use spray wax, but I also have a metal body and clear coat.
  • Spray "wax" is just oil. NOT recommended.

Please search on here for "wax" or "polish".
You should find several existing threads.

I tried Aerospace 303 on my gel coat a few months ago and I am really happy with the results. It has to be very clean first, and a little bit goes a long way. It's very shiny and great UV protection. You can also use it on your tires and other rubber. Prior to that, and still between waxings, I use a combo turtle wash and wax. That works pretty well too although the combo waxes don't last very long.
