Well, the HEATER works -- LOL!

Another system I hadn't checked out yet on my N2M TT was the ducted heater. Of course -- it's SUMMER here in Texas and TODAY the heat index will make it FEEL like 109 degrees. WHY would I turn on the heater?!!

Camping this past weekend with my niece(13) and nephew(9). All of a sudden we smell this God-awful BURNING smell. What is that? Where's it coming from?? I start frantically looking around -- AC's still running fine. Basically nothing else is on but that & the TV. I unplug the TV, shut off the AC -- still I'm smelling it. The kids are gagging.

Then niece asks "why is there hot air coming out of these vents?? BINGO! Somehow the thermostat lever has been moved from "off" to about 75 and the AC has got the temperature down below that so the HEATER has now fired up and come on. WHEW!! Nothing's on fire.

And I know the heater works just fine. :R

  • We had that exact thing happen to us a couple years ago when one of the kids bumped the thermostat while crawling up to the top bunk. It's amazing how fast you can pop up out of a dead sleep when you hear a kid say, "I smell something burning!"

But that begs the question 'Why/how were the A/C unit AND furnace running at same time'

Change out that old analog thermostat to a digital t-stat....better temp control

AC is separate unit on ceiling. Heater is ducted in floor with thermostat on wall.

Out AC controls are on the unit itself. the furnace is stand alone. On our 5th wheel it is a dual thermostat and it either heat or cold cant run both,

  • Yes, nothing better than the smell of the oil burning off an unused heater!
  • Ha! This past weekend, my little jerk of a 2-year-old son turned our thermostat from A/C to heat. Nothing like heat on inside when it's 90+ outside.
  • I turn on the heat to help purge the propane lines. Always good to know it works.
