One of my favorite memories of childhood camping trips was the time the cat spooked up a tree. My dad spent several hours trying to get him down. We never purposely took a cat camping again... (we did have a cat hitch a ride on the top of the truck camper - thank goodness we stopped for gas on the way out of town).
