I just decided not to go for Class A. I am going to stick with TT since its cheaper and it is cheaper to maintain and the insurance is cheaper as well. Thanks All.
What will you pull it with ?
There is a compromise.
In Florida at least, the RV market is still severely depressed.
There are THOUSANDS of used units on the market at real attractive prices.
I recently got a 7 year old 28 foot C+ with 40K miles in excellent condition for about $27K. That's about half the price of a comparable new.
You have to be careful but there ARE good deals out there; a LOT of them.
I'll hit this comment and the OP in one post.
OP: I'm financially conservative as I think you are with no vehicle debt and you are asking a good question. When looking at percentages, I always like the conservative end as well and apply the % against my income AFTER automatic deductions for retirement. I don't like financing anything, much less "toys" but with no vehicle debt and low interest rates I don't think it's the worst thing if you don't do long term debt - and you stated a 7 year max. We've lived under the principle of "no more than one car loan" with hopefully gaps of no loan for our entire marriage and it has served us well. As we got older and more stable, it's been no car debt or pay off in 18-24 months upon purchase. Buying late model used has saved us a ton of money and combined with low interest made that possible.
Re Vulcan Rider: I agree look at used Class C's depending on how much space you need and it follows principle of late model used. I'm in the early stages of looking (12-18 month window). My current tow vehicle will need to be replaced in 3-4 years. A combination of the price of current 250/2500 series trucks even used with a desire to downsize my daily driver is leading me to Class C's. If I'm looking at $25k for my "new" daily driver and $40k for a used Class C, that's a $65k total. I'd be in for $50k plus for a used tow vehicle equipped like I'd like it. I have never owned an RV, but I also like the flexibility of the family in the RV on the road compared to a TT and TV. We eat sandwiches on the road and make quick stops anyway in transit. A restaurant is one luxury we forego to travel more. An RV makes meals easier on the road and gain a microwave to reheat something for lunch.
Just points to consider - as stated, we're pontificating but it's your decision but I like RVNet just to get other's perspective to balance my biases or limited experience.
