No, Effy, it isn't different just as stealing from Walmart isn't different than stealing from a poor blind person. Its stealing. If your word is not your bond...and I guess it isn't. Now I know.
A handshake only indicates the desire to do the deal or task. But the devil is in the details. So I agree if you shake on it both parties should do their best to complete the transaction.
Documenting the details will eliminate hard feelings or confusion on what the deal really is. It is a little naive to think a transaction with many moving parts and interpretations of completeness can be memorialized in a quick meeting and handshake.
