Remodeling a fifth wheel in two weeks? Not hardly. My fiver is parked beside my garage, and TWO people (myself and my high school buddy) have been remodeling the fiver for two YEARS. When we are through, it will be practically a new unit on an old frame.
Something to think about is what will you do with the inevitable trash, rotten wood, old carpet, etc that a "remodel" would generate? In my case, it is weekly trips to the trash transfer station for anything I can't put on a burn pile. You will generate more trash than you can imagine.
I can attest to saving money while living in a fiver full time. Of course I do have permanent registration on the fiver, and when the DW and I were living in our rig while house hunting we had a lot rent of $350 a month utilities included. The only other expense was insurance on the rig, which came in handy when the park we were in had a power surge that took out our rooftop A/C.
