I don't recall anyone on this thread mentioning this, but to me, what makes the fiver preferable is that you can make the purchasing decisions independently. If you get tired of the RV, trade it and keep the TV, or the other way around.
When WyoTraveler says he got his Monaco and Jeep for "approximately" the same price as a PU and 5W, my BS meter went crazy.
Here is some factual information as others have pointed out:
Not every 5W needs a dually diesel to tow it. Some ultra lights can be towed with a half-ton truck with gasoline engine. (see the many other threads debating the gas vs. diesel issue).
Fifth-wheels are not significantly harder to set-up. If automatic leveling is important to you, you can get it on a 5W.
Backing up in a TT or 5W is a skill. Anyone can learn to do it. Backing up a MH with a tow vehicle attached is virtually impossible. Where I like to go, there are very few pull-through sites.
Brian was pretty much right on with his pros and cons. To each his own.
