A DP is the nicest and most expensive way to RV as I've owned every type of RV other than a TH. If you cannot use an expensive MH more than 100 days/year then I'd stay with a 5er. We snowbird for three months and there is no way I'd go back to my 5er and PU... yes I still own both but my kids use the 5er. We also usually spend three months out West each year.
When it comes to costs, if you cannot do your own work then a 5er will save you money... I do all of my own. My DP is 10 years old and it still looks like new inside/out and I plan on keeping it for another 10+ years. No rubber roof, no pressed wood, no staples so how much is that 5er going to be worth when it's 10 years old? Will it go another 10 years? I would buy a 10 year old high end DP over a new PU and trailer for the same price.
OP, only you can decided what's best for you and how much you'll use it.
