Wouldn't it be nice if

You would have to have a million different sections to have a specific section dedicated to the wants of each camper. Music vs quiet, pets vs no pets, campfire vs no campfire, children vs adult, smoker vs non-smoker, big rigs vs small rigs, French Canadians vs everyone else (just kidding on that one, maybe). Pick a park with policies and rules that fit your needs, and if they aren't enforced, go elsewhere.

Sounds alot like a pot calling a kettle black. Everyone has a different style of camping. While you may not consider a large group gathering together at one site "camping", a single couple in a tent probably thinks the same thing about you with your "house on wheels". As long as the rules are not being violated, it's none of anyone else's business how someone "camps", nor can you define "camping" for anyone other than yourself. If campground rules are being violated, then the park management needs to be informed; most parks do take it seriously. If they don't, find another park. Contrary to what some may believe, there ARE enough campgrounds to find the type/atmosphere that works for you.

I am ... happens ALL the time in the Ontario Provincial Park system, though enforcement varies as each park has it's own park management that interprets provincial park regulations as they see fit. :R Trip before last at Pinery I filed a complaint about excessive noise coming from an adjacent campsite but nothing was done about it as far as I could tell. :M

I was told in another recent thread, they are so strict that they record how many bundles of firewood you buy, and then track how much you burn to keep people in check from bringing their own wood in to the park.

A gross exaggeration to be sure. Occasionally when checking in I'm asked if we're bring in wood, the irony being that Ontario Parks firewood is commonly understood by everyone to be wet garbage that won't even burn with gasoline thrown on it. :M To circumvent this issue most do buy wood from local suppliers just outside the park and contrary to what some may believe it IS legal to bring into the park.

I have been camping my entire life and over those years I have seen the style of camping evolve. Most recently we have had to change the way we camp, including where, because of camping neighbor's mind set of inconsideration.

Did you ever speak to anyone about it? If it bothered you that much you should have quietly gone to management and expressed your displeasure.

I'm not saying be a jerk but continually ignoring rule infractions is like ignoring a bully-none of the bad behavior will get fixed because no one is complaining. We're our own worst enemies. I've lost track of the number of people who let fairly major infractions slide because they "want to be a good neighbor". By NOT at least trying to curb the behavior you condone it.

I don't know if this was the OP's first state park experience, but if so, I hope they'll do some review checking of other state parks, and give it another try elsewhere. There are some really nice ones out there...

Then again, if the OP's experience was typical of all Maine State Parks, and I really hope not, I'll take a visit there off my bucket list. We've stayed in east coast state parks from Florida to upstate NY, usually on spacious sites often with foliage separating them from the next site. Sure we've had some noisy neighbors at times, particularly those with young kids, but they've always settled down by quiet time or shortly after. Maybe we've just been lucky all these years, but we even chose a NY state park for the 4th of July week, specifically because they do not allow fireworks, and they do enforce it.

I guess those "buddy" sites should be disallowed, the ones where they are designed for the "fronts" of both units face each other with an open area between them.

You can not be referring to your Provincial Parks are you in regards to the rules being enforced? It seems to me if they're that strict with the wood that enforcing occupancy and quiet times would be easy?

Then again maybe they are too busy recording wood sales and counting logs thrown on fires.
