On mine if I'm SITTING outside the hot exhaust from the water heater is above my head and not a problem, the noise is not all that bad since the burner is properly adjusted (Poor adjustment they roar).
The furnace exhaust is also above my head but. as someone said I'm likely indoors if it's running, enjoying it.
The other issue is of course "Exhaust gasses" Since these are propane it's not all that bad, Propane is often used to power engines that run INDOORS with limited air circulation where electric motors are not practical.
This brings to the Generator. Which blows out the other side, and into a Gen-Turi so it goes up-up and away.
And the main engine, which is blown just now but blows out both sides. But A: well past the awning, and B: when it's blowing, I am inside, sitting in the driver's seat.
