We have only crossed the country four times but we never had the chance to see so many attractions we would like to visit. My suggestion is to plan to travel only a couple hundred miles in each segment and use the Internet to find all the local attractions.
Quite frankly, the most fun and learning experiences will be found in the smaller towns and less advertised commercial attractions. We always enjoy visiting the local museums, visiting with the local folks, and visiting the local Elks lodge if one is located close by.
Order some local newspapers from the smaller towns you visit and investigate some of their community functions. I still subscribe to the local newspaper of my small hometown and we really enjoy taking in some of the community functions we are able to visit for a few day.
There is some much to see, learn, and be a participant in this wonderful Country, I don't think one could ever even start to experience all the treasures in a lifetime.
