my 7-way doesn't do squat for charging the batteries on my trailer... factory controller on a 2013 ram 1500. I bought 800 amps of batteries and a 3000 watt inverter so I wouldn't have to conserve electricity while boondocking, catch is, the paltry 5 amps delivered from the truck isn't but a drop in the pond so to speak in terms of charging.
As I was driving all over creation on my grand Alaskan adventure last summer, I just let the yammy run in the truck bed with the trailer plugged in. once I highway speed I couldn't hear the yammy at all, and had no overheating problems either.
driving for 6-8 hours in a day, the trailer would be fully charged when I stopped, and was ready for a quiet night of boondocking.
