As 20ldman said--it only does 8 amps. Worse than that it is not a regulated voltage--so it might do 17 volts or only 8 volts. One is too high and the other too low.
Get a 40 amp battery charger, or upgrade the converter.

So if I had a generater in the truck bed and ran off the twelve volt option on the gen with wires straight to the batteries and did this while we drive. This would solve the fact that my furnace will draw down my 4 or 6 batteries over night.
A new upgraded converter (smart) as well??
