1st pull.... A couple surprises, and my 1st cab dents!

Finally pulled my TH myself for the first time, and it was also the first time I ever pulled a 5th wheel... All went pretty well, I was amazed at how good a job the pick up did. I think it felt less like I had something back there than towing my 22' boat behind my Tahoe does. It surprised me enough that I needed to use the cruise to keep it down to 72mph, found myself at 76 a couple times... Then I fueled up... 8.45mpg... Hmmmm, lets see what it does at 65!!!!
All went well until I tried to get it where I wanted in my drive, ended up with a dent in BOTH sides of my cab.. I don't think I get much more than about 60-65 degrees... I am going to come up with something to warn me before I do any real damage. I can see where an 8' bed would really shine, but I have what I have for the foreseeable future, will work with it. I am relieved that it towed so nicely, the only challenge I foresee will be planting it at the RV parks...

    Well Sport, you would be wrong. I tell it like it is. What good would it do me lie about it and learn nothing? Now Larry's comment has me more worried than about the dents in the back of my cab.

    After a little more research, I am liking the Sidewinder. If I have too much trouble, I'll get one while on my trip.

    Now onto figuring out a temperamental slide out issue....

    I thought about saying something about denting both sides of the cab at one sitting but on second thought - no.

    Look at it this way. Since both sides of the cab are dented there are no more worries about having that happen. :h

    Heat kills tires. High speeds generate lots of heat. With Florida known for high temps, and running 72-75 - I am with LarryJM..... 70 something in Montana in January I wouldn't be worried about the tires.

    Just be aware that you have most likely compromised and damaged the tires now on your TT and unless you replace them and keep your speed below 65 (if they are ST tires) you have probably incresed the probablility of a tire failure including a catastrophic blow out significantly. Reducing your speed only to 65 after the fact is not going to help much again IMO in this case. This is something a lot don't understand, tire damage can occur quite easily and your situation is one where IMO we see a lot of complaints usually mislabeled as to where the tire is manufactured being blamed on tire failures.

    You have a lot better attitude than I would after putting a couple dents in the truck. Me? I would have a slider on that faster than cr@p goes thru a goose!

    $200 - $300 extra for a slider...or $$$$$$$ for the cost of repairing dents in your cab??

    4WD IF you get stuck....or no 4WD??

    $350 multi-function surge protector...or $$$$$$ replacing your electonic devices after they get fried???

    etc. etc. etc.
