I don't generally comment on these tire threads but I just can't help myself. My first thought was also that anytime a Maxxis fails the first thing that the "experts" here always point to is some fault other than the tire. On the other hand when one of the tires manufactured in China fails it is automatically assumed the tire is at fault. Reality is that all factors have to be considered. Unfortunately all that anyone can do from this or any forum is speculate. That speculation is all too often done from a position of bias or per-conceived notion, at least from what I have seen.
