Has anyone found that the towing mirrors are not quite out far enough to see down the side of the trailer? Is there an aftermarket mirror or add-on that gets another inch or two? I'm glad I don't have the 8.5' wide trailer.. I can see the traffic fine, just would like to see along the trailer better..
which mirrors do you have?
a) the power extending towing mirrors with only one glass and accordion cover over the extension
b) the big manual extending towing mirror with a regular mirror and a glass wide angle below it?
If you have (a), install the (b) mirrors, available from GM
I have (b) as do many others, and when fully extended (manually) they stick out plenty far.
The OP has a 2011 and I don't believe GM has offered the (a) mirror for quite some time so I assume he has the (b) mirror, just like me. They are fine, but would be nice if they went out a couple more inches. My last trailer was 7'3" wide and I had wider strap on mirrors with my previous tow vehicle so I could see much better then. I'm guessing what I have is normal but I cannot see behind my trailer like I am used to with this new combination. The side with the awning, I can't really see past it at all.
For anyone that has the (b) mirrors, what is the dimension from outside of glass to outside of glass on your truck's mirrors when the mirrors are fully extended? I have not measured mine, but I will if I have a comparison from someone else that is happy with theirs. Thanks.
I have (b) mirrors on my 04 CC silverado and tow a 35' TT. with the mirrors extended I can easily see down both sides of the trailer. They are 8'10" outside to outside. Make sure the mirrors arms are in the detent position for rotation. They can pop out and then they closer to the vehicle even when extended. I can see close enough behind me to know what's behind me and to safely change lanes. I do use a camera mounted on the back of the trailer to see directly behind me and monitor the bike rack etc. when traveling.
The (a) mirrors are a joke for towing.
