2012 CRV charge line

Just completed a month long trip. First one after installing a 12v charge line to keep battery charged. No more dead battery at the end of a day's towing. Always had fully charged battery at the end of the day. One camper during trip asked if I had battery problems since he also had 2012 CRV and dead battery problems. Easy fix and not large investment in time.

  • What size wire is recommended to run from the motor home battery CRV battery? I was thinking 10 gage with 20 amp fuses....
  • Thanks Dave, I know just the place to get the charging voltage.
  • No. Just run a wire from the motorhome battery to the rear where the connector is and mount a second connector there then same for car: connector, wire to battery. You will then just need a second wire to connect car to motorhome. Just remember to use an in line fuse (20 amp is fine) on both the motorhome battery wire and the car battery wire in case of an inadvertent short. I used an in line Buss type fuse and holder.

tenbear, the 7 pin connector on my motorhome has a pin for 12v charge. On my motorhome it is the pin in the 1:00 position. You can check yours with a multimeter when the ignition switch is in the "on" position.

Thanks Dave. Unfortunately, my MH only came with a flat four connecter. :( I don't think it will be too hard to find a suitable 12v source.

  • I completely agree with you, DaveG39. We had our 2013 CRV wired the same way with a charge line through the harness. After towing several Hondas over the years, I have finally seen the light. This is the simplest fix for this problem that I've seen. Eliminates the need to "pull a fuse", or install a fuse cutoff switch, etc. We've now towed this car almost 10,000 miles with no problems.
    Happy travels
  • Glad to hear your charge line worked.

Where in the MH did you tap into the 12v power?
