2012 Dodge Ram "Sport" 4x4 towing

According to the manual in my truck, this can be flat towed if you go through the procedure in the owners manual. Problem is, Blue Ox does NOT make a baseplate for the "sport" model. They did offer me a free one if I were willing to drive all the way out to NE though, lol.

I do have a perfectly good tow dolly sitting at home. Why cant I just put it on that??

  • Heck, I just played with it and it appears my steering column DOES NOT lock? I thought all vehicles these days had a locking steering wheel.
  • Blue Ox will have a base plate out for my truck in a few weeks, so this is good news.

One question to others who are towing this type truck, how do you keep the steering wheel from locking?
  • To dolly tow it you'd have to remove the rear driveshaft. Otherwise it'll tear up the transfer case.
  • What does the truck Owners Manual say about 2 wheel down towing?
Every 4X4 manual I have ever read strictly forbids the practice, unless the rear driveshaft is removed or disconnected. That includes several years/models of Jeeps, Dodge trucks, and Chevy trucks.
However, I have never read the manual for a 2012 Dodge. What does it say?
