2012 Ford F-250 Lariat 4x4

This truck our local dealer has put out after putting 16,000 miles on it going Pheasant hunting in North Dakota (from PA). He probably did a few other things as well, its only 3000 miles round trip unless he did it multiple times.

Anyway, it has the 6.7 L diesel and looks good. The bed needs to be cleaned out. My question is how long can a diesel go, and is 16,000 miles just a break in period for a diesel? I have a couple other questions for the dealer, but am looking at this towing my new trailer 2011 Nash 27T - Dry Weight of 7000, GVW 10,500. I have a 2000 E-350 V-10 with 130,000 miles that I'm using right now, and I've loved this Van, but as I am starting to get the feel for this towing stuff the van certainly does know it is towing something. I havn't pushed it too much yet.

  • Consider that people are getting that truck for $10-15k off MSRP with zero miles. $20k off as you would build a 2013 model is my target..

The miles are nothing is properly serviced and treated. Diesels tend to break in over 50K+ miles, so it still is fairly fresh.

It will tow that TT so much better than your E350.
  • You might want to consider the Ford ESP plan (Ford's extended warranty plan) for this truck as well just to be on the safe side. I normally don't recommend extended warranties as they are nothing more than insurance policies with holes in them for the writer but ESP is a Ford product, not aftermarket and could be beneficial in this case. The ESP plan does not have to be purchased from the selling dealer either and can be purchased at a discount from some Ford dealers like Troy Ford.

Wow 16,000 miles, well he has already done the break in for you. Is he selling as "New" or used?

I would go for $15K to 20K off the list price and see where it gets you. Full warranty being offered?

That diesel will tow the TT very nicely.

Thanks! Yup you have the scenario. Thanks for confirming my price target it lists for $62,975, and I was going to offer $44,000. Saleswoman said they are asking $55,000. Full warranty, since purchaser will be 1st owner on record. (dealers get to do this, I guess)

DW had a good idea to ask for the service record on the truck.
  • If you can get a nice chunk of change knocked off I would do it. You will love how that truck pulls your trailer.
  • The 6.7 has a target service life of 300,000 miles. 16,000 is nothing IF it was serviced and treated properly.
This truck that will handle your trailer with ease.

So the dealer has a demo, that he used to go hunting in half way across the country in an now has on his lot for sale.
