2013 Ford Fusion Titanium Hybrid as a TOAD

Need some help. The Ford manual says the Fusion Titanium Hybrid can be towed 4 down with transmission in neutral but is not clear about how that can be done. Does anyone have any experience on this with the Fusion. Household 6 and I headed out cross country Aug 2017 for 3 months so I need to get this setup this winter. Thanks

  • DouglasC. Thank you so much. This was exactly what I was not understanding. Great clarification.
  • All Ford Hybrids have been easily towable 4 down since the Escape hybrid was introduced in 2006. Hybrids with a key are towable with the transmission in neutral and the key in the "Acc" position.

Hybrids with push button start require that the transmission be in neutral tow mode. This is accomplished by pushing the Start button with your foot OFF the brake - - that puts the vehicle in "accessory" mode. Then place foot on brake and push the Neutral button. The display will say "Press N again to stay in Neutral mode". Doing that completes the process and the vehicle will stay in neutral while being towed.

To reverse the process press P while foot is on brake. Vehicle is now in Park. To drive the vehicle, press Start with foot on the brake. Since it is a hybrid, engine may or may not start depending on whether the battery needs to be charged or not.

To verify these comments, look under "Recreational Towing" & "Neutral Tow" in the owners manual.
