when you fuel up, how do you pay and how much is it?

Good question. Obviously the majority of the time you are charging at home so whatever the KWH rate at home at night is. Having said that this winter in the Palm Springs area we have found so many business sponsored charge stations that we find we do a lot of "opportunity charging" while shopping. So zero dollars in that situation. Businesses and shopping areas use them as loss leaders to get people to shop at their establishment, restaurant, mall etc. Kinda like coupons. A one hour shopping stop can yield a 3 to 7 KW charge depending on the vehicle.
However in answer to your question re the road trip. During a road trip you would want to charge fast and get back on the road. Typically, the units I have seen charge 35 cents a KWH. They are usually located in areas where people would want to take a break, starbucks, restaurants etc. So lets say you have a 60 KW bolt and you charge 40 KW. Your bill would be around 14 bucks. Honestly bumpy I can't tell you much more than that as we rarely use CHADEMO chargers in our lifestyle. Not only that our leaf only has a 30KW battery so obviously the charge costs less but we also only have a 200 KM of range. Like I say, most of us charge at home.
How do you pay. We'll I think some just use a credit card but we use a pre loaded RFID card. Just swipe the card and it deducts the amount you use.
A Chevy bolt might work for you. We were not in love with the interior and didn't need the range so it wasn't worth it for us. Might be fun for you to take one for a drive though. Between what two cities do you travel? I'll take a look at the charge app and see what the coverage is like.
Hope this helps.
