I've had good luck removing decals with a hair blow dryer , coarse worked great taking the decals off a new truck I bought years ago, but even on an older toyhauler I helped a friend remove the decals that were sun backed/cracked.
The remaining adhesive he used some 3M adhesive remover in a spray can.
And yes there was the obvious color difference where the out decals were , no matter how much he polished with a DA buffer.
Wound up having new decals made ...
