  • Wife thinks she wants a new car,I want it to be towable 4 down. I would be happy with used ,so may end up new or used. I already got a super hitch ,so I can tow boat, and other times want to pull toad behind truck camper, thanks for suggestions. I would go 7 yrs old or newer I have a 2011 f-350 6.7 dually so I believe there should be no problems towing.Just putting a list together ,so we can go to car lots and look at whats towable. We used to always remove camper, last trip to Erie we rented a car cheap for a couple days. I like idea of when were on road for months having a toad.
  • pa traveler are you wanting new or used? If used how old will you go? How much weight can you tow? Need more info. Dick

most any Jeep with an auto tranny can be flat towed that also has a manually selectable neutral position manually selectable neutral position in the 4WD transfer case.
  • Many (but not all) four wheel drive vehicles with a 2 speed transfer case and a NEUTRAL position in the transfer case.
Many (but not all) automatic transmission vehicles can be towed four down with the addition of a lubrication pump ($1000, give or take a hundred or so). Check the Remco website.
There are three viable methods of taking a vehicle with you:
    Four down (limited as noted)
On a dolly (Great for front wheel drive vehicles, NOT for 4X4 or all wheel drives, usually not good for rear wheel drives).
On a trailer (GREAT for ANY vehicle up to the weight/size limits of the trailer, but not very convenient).

To start off with, Honda CRV, in multiple years can be flat towed. They are close to the top in terms of "Top pick" for toads. Jeep Wrangler, also of multiple years, auto or stick, is flat towable, as long as it's the 4WD model and has the transfer case that can be put into neutral. They too are close to the Top pic, for flat towable toads.

But, I'd go through the Dinghy Towing Guides of as many years as you like, depending on amount you'd like to spend, to pick out a number of automatics that can be flat towed. Good luck.
