You're not going to be very popular in wooded, rustic campgrounds where it's dead silent except for your generator. That's probably the worst place for them - especially if you run one ALL DAY. We get a lot of stories on here about that. I don't run one in a Walmart either. Attracts too much attention (especially a loud one) and it's just considered bad form anyway.
An inverter is a much better alternative for evening use -way better than running a generator to watch TV - and you'd be surprised how many people do that. I can't say I like hearing the constant drone of a generator in the evening, when I'm trying to enjoy otherwise peaceful surroundings. It's not "against the rules" that I'm aware of, but for MY comfort, I like to avoid it.
