One more question.. :)
The instructions say NEVER start or stop the generator engine while loads are connected. What about when you run out of fuel, can this cause damage? This seems to be common instructuctions for champion but I have found no explanation.
Ok last one seriously! :)
The manual says to only use economy mode for reduced electrical output then sags WARNING For periods of high electrical load or momentary fluctuations, the economy control switch should be turned off. Problem is has no description of what a reduced load or high load is. Anybody have insight?
My explanation for number one issue is that they dont want erratic voltage as the generator shuts off under load. The device that is being powered is also seeing a low voltage as the generator slows down. It's best to make and break the load with the proper switches so full voltage is there.
The voltage issue would be the same when running out of fuel. I dont know everything about the champ but different engines have different fuel supply systems and some are quicker to restart than others when run out of fuel. It will probably save a lot of wear on the recoil starter if you fuel it before it runs out. Shut it off and let it cool for 5 or 10 minutes in case of fuel spillage. It's safer that way.
As far as your last question I couldn't even get an answer to that for my Honda. I wanted an amp figure so I could profile a few items and decide on which mode to run in. I usually run mine on eco but it has stalled a few times when the microwave hits it. If eco is off and it's running fast it never stalls and quickly accepts large loads as it should. When running my ac I always keep eco off.
The next improvement for my Honda would be another function on the fob for eco mode on or off.
