50 AMP Tents

Some campgrounds won't allow tents on 50 amp sites.

A lot of state parks, there is little or no cost difference but 50 amp sites tend to be larger and in some cases better positioned.

Since it's publicly owned, RV owners have no special rights to those sites.

In the Michigan State parks I've visited, the 50amp sites are rarely something to get excited about. They're usually long and narrow, for huge rigs to pull-through. Almost always solid gravel, or payment, as those rigs usually bring a full patio set with them anyway.

They cost slightly more than the 30amp sites, and there's no discount based on equipment.

Scenario #3:
When booking, the 50 amp site were the only sites available for a 4-5 day period. Instead of packing it in on Friday and moving to a tent site, why not just get a site that's available for your whole stay?

I never camp in a tent without 50 amp service....just in case.

Ironically you joke about it, I HAVE seen folks tent camp AND use a window A/C unit through the door opening to "cool" their tent in 90+ temps in SC..

Talk about a huge waste of electricity..

I too have seen this, but think about it.... Huge waste of electricity ?? They are paying a 1 time fee for that, the cost to have the COLD AIR blow across you while sleeping - priceless....

And that cold air will be fealt, but just will not stay cold

I too used to be bothered when I saw this, but now I try to not sweat the small stuff ! :B

There are numerous 30 AMP sites available, I just thought that it was a shame that others are denied the precious few 50 AMP sites that probably were reserved on the first day allowed. I need to brush up on the “it’s all about me” thing.

I don't sweat the "small stuff" like airconditioning a tent, but in reality it is the same thing as sitting on your open deck in full sun on a 90+ day and pointing a window A/C at you.

While you might think one has the "right" because "they "paid for a one time use of electric" it doesn't really mean that one MUST and feels obligated to use as much as they can with little or no regards to how wasteful the use is.

Reality in many folks eyes now days is really clouded by the "me" generation, what is in it for "me" and not worry about OTHERS and what effect it has on OTHERS.

Excessive usage of those campgrounds resources does affect others, campgrounds must pay for that usage and guess what happens, they pass that waste cost onto OTHERS next year by raising prices.. Then folks whine about the camping prices but they pay it and start the cycle over again and again.

They say history repeats, it does.

I like to use as little electricity as possible to give OTHERS a fair shot at a FAIR cost next year.
