5th to a C or A, thoughts

I know this is a can of worms, but I'm putting it out there anyway. I currently have a 40' Fiver. We are going to buy a condo in MB next fall. I'm thinking of a 30' +/- Class C or Class A. We will keep our Stick Built, and use the condo, but want to be able to travel elsewhere. Looking for opinions as to the move down in size, and which size would be reccomended.
  • Physical limitations are one of the reasons for this downsize to begin with. Getting harder and harder to climb up into the truck, let alone the 5ver. Had TC years ago, loved it, but as "Funny" said, too much climbing nowadays.

If it's just the two of you, maybe a truck camper would be practical? Granted that is a significant step down in size...but there are plenty of places where they can go that a class A or C or most tow-behinds are quite ill-suited for.

As others have said, it's really hard to guess what would work out best for your situation and your usage and your preferences without actually being you.

yea I almost said TC also in that we owned one long ago when younger so we could pull our big old boat with us on trips.

what got me on those is the bed. You have to climb up into that bed. Younger, no problem, older now we would not want this for us. I would pick a small, like 18 ft TT over a TC now at this stage in my life.
    No climbing LOL

Just chatting, just commenting on the TC and our time in life about them, it could suit the OP very nicely tho.

A TC is fab if you are needing one. We loved ours and used it and enjoyed the heck out of it. Til our lifestyle changed. But TC is a great option to remember. Thumbs Up on a TC being an option if it suits the OP :)

  • Yea this tough cause it is all about you and your family and want you now want out of RV'ing and your trip locations.

If you think you will use it less, I would go smaller A or C, doesn't matter kinda if you know the type of RV'ing you will be doing. All about the floor plan and it fits your family and you don't need an 'extra vehicle' around alot.....or you can tow a small vehicle behind A or C if needed. Small travel trailer might be an option if you don't want to tow but need a vehicle around.

ahh, too much to guess about your life and how you want to RV for the future.

Your condo sounds like a nice sweet buy! Enjoy!!

Ahhhh - you want folks on an internet forum to (help) decide what works best for *YOUR* lifestyle???

    There's no worms - it's Mission Impossible...:R

Dive into that box of chocolates, Forrest - and *YOU* decide what works
    best for *YOU*...:S

BTW - I might have made a suggestion - but it would be *MY* preference!

    Good luck!..;)

Personally I would take the money you are budgeting for the RV and the condo and buy a good Diesel pusher. Now you have a condo on the beach in the mountains at the lake or where ever you want to go.

  • Sounds like the RV will be for vacation mode and since you have been a part timer with the 5er and TV it should be no problem to downsize. I assume you have or will have a towed for whatever you decide. So the decision is what do you feel comfortable with and only you and yours knoww that.
  • Go with a floor plan that you can live with for the length of time you will be travelling. A class A will probably have more storage (volume and weight) for the same length, as well holding tanks maybe bigger. Both will have similar dimensions, length, width and height, but the 'C" will have a smaller cab area and not used as part of the living area, but it may have and overhead bed (entertainment, storage etc).
